Brownsea island Trip 2010 posted on 19/11/09 by Eugene |
This Is An Email That was sent to me by Castletown Venture Leader , Anyone Interested let me Know
Eugene
Hi folks, At this stage we should all know from experience that it is quite difficult to organise a good county venturer activity. One of the things that our section have been talking about recently is a trip to Brownsea Island, and it was suggested that we could/should make this a county event. I spoke to Chris earlier, and told him I was interested in 'checking out' a few things about such a trip. Below I have done a very, very, very rough costings (absolute max) on what a trip could cost per person. I propose a 3-night camp, from Thur 8th April - Sun 11th April [this is the weekend after Easter Sunday, so schools will still be on holidays]. Flying into Bournemouth (or Southampton is another option). Ryanair don't have flights up for April yet, but I based my cost on what a flight would cost be in December. All tents, cooking gear etc can be rented from Brownsea, so a carry on bag would suffice.
The following is a rough costings for the trip:
Flights 80.00 Ferry 12.00 Camp Fees 12.50 Food 30.00 Activities 20.00 Equip. 15.00 Transport 15.00 Extras 25.00
Total 209.50
As you can see I have been very generous with some of the figures, but this is to ensure that I have an absolute max price.
I would be hoping to cut the cost of flights down a fair bit by watching out for deals on Ryanair for travel at this time. Bearing this in mind I will need to have names etc in advance in order to be able to book people on to flights. Therefore can I suggest that each person wishing to attend should pay a 50 deposit by Monday 30th November. This gives the venturers 2 full months to save and get a deposit together.
Another thing that I mentioned to Chris was the possibility of doing a fundraiser for this event, with a grocery pack probably being the easiest. Buíon Setanta, Slieve Foy and ourselves (and Wellington Hall if they are still in operation) could organise a pack in Dlk, while St. Olivers could do 1 in Drog.
I would be hoping to charge each person at most 125, but it would be great if we could reduce this even further. Perhaps the county could make a contribution towards the trip as well?
Let me know what you think about the proposal discuss it at your weekly meetings and see what your members think.
Sherry.
