5th Louth Buíon Setanta is based in Dundalk, County Louth. Over the years, we have proven that no individual is excludable from scouting due to gender, race, religion or level of physical or mental ability.

The Cub Scout Section is for children between the age of 9 and 11. This is your child's introduction to the world of scouting. They will learn to both work and play with other children in a safe environment with responsible adults watching over them. They will also become accustomed to routines and learn that the group is more important than the individual - all taught in a way that they will find to be great fun.

The Scout Section is for children between the age of 12 and 15. Of all the sections, the scouts are quite possibly the most active. With quite a few camps and hikes throughout the year, ranging in duration form 1 day to 10 days, we hardly ever take a break. Children will learn a great deal about leadership and team building skills when they are with us. These skills will serve them well even after they leave scouting and go out into the 'real' world.

The Venture Scout Section is for young adults between the age of 15 and 17. Although members have usually progressed through the different sections to this point, it is still possible to start your scouting life here - all you need is energy and enthusiasm. Ventures play hard. They are always up to something and off having adventures somewhere. Those who make it through these rigorous years often become 'lifers' and eventually go on to become Scout Leaders (sometimes via a 'Rover Scout' Section), giving back what they got out of this hardcore outfit.

This site is primarily used to communicate up to date information to both our scouts and their parents. It also serves as a media centre for our section. You can download important files from the Downloads page. Also, be sure to check the Photos page to see some moments from our past exploits!

Parental Information

The 'Code of Good Practice' outlines Scouting Ireland's child protection policies and procedures. Any of our leaders will gladly discuss this and how it effects your child’s safety and welfare in detail, should you have any concerns.

Examples of how we adhere to the code:

• We never text members directly, rather all text messages are sent to parents instead
• We only use the Twitter Social Network so parents can follow news about camps hikes, etc. We do not use it to communicate directly with cubs/scouts/ventures. We do not believe in using Facebook, ever, as a communication medium with members
• Members are never named in photographs or explicitly in news articles

there are many more examples. Suffice to say Buíon Setanta 'do it by the book' wherever possible!

Note that ALL new applicant Scout Leaders go through a Garda vetting process. In addition, all new leaders must undertake a child protection training course during their Induction period.
